Which metal type is your jewelry item?
How can I tell?
Shinola offers jewelry in 14K Gold, 14K Rose Gold, Sterling Silver, and Mixed Metals. Please see some examples in the photos below to serve as a reference.
In the first photo, you'll see our Crescent Dome Ring in each of our three metal offerings - from left to right as: 14K Rose Gold, 14K Gold, and Sterling Silver. If you are unsure of whether or not your piece is gold or rose gold, you can compare it to a piece of jewelry you know is gold or gold-tone. Rose gold will stand out with pink tones next to yellow gold because of its copper content.
Mixed metals refers to any combination of the three metals above. To see an example, please take a look at the Lug Ring with diamonds shown below, crafted using both 14K Gold and Sterling Silver, with diamonds inlaid.
Identifying an issue with your jewelry
- If you can generally describe the issue you are experiencing or service you are requesting, but simply do not know the name of the corresponding jewelry component, please refer to the list of possible issues/services and their corresponding images (if applicable) below.
- If you are still unsure of how to label the issue you are experiencing, simply select "other" from the pick-list on the repair form and describe the issue in your own words via the open text field on the repair form.
Bent or Misshapen - Metal on any jewelry item is bent or misshapen
Lengthen or Shorten Chain - Increase or decrease the length of chain on necklaces/bracelets
Replace Chain - This is most often the case when a chain breaks and is lost - a replacement chain is different from "chain repair/solder" below as it is always a replacement rather than a repair
Chain Repair/Solder - Service to repair a chain that is broken but has not been lost
Lobster clasp replacement - found on many of our necklace and bracelet styles
Stone cracked/broken/missing - damage or loss of an inlaid stone. Many of our rings and necklaces feature inlaid stones, as shown in the example below
Broken post/missing earring nut - these components are unique to our earrings. See examples of each labeled on the image below
Sizing up/Sizing down - just as chains on our necklaces and bracelets can be lengthened or shortened to help find the perfect fit, our rings can also be sized up or down in size. We offer ring sizing for all rings except for those with inlaid stones. Sizing is available in 1/4 sizes up to a full size up or down from the original ring size.
